Looking for a low-cost, fun and social badminton session – with no commitment? Drop into one of our No Strings sessions, play some badminton, and meet some new people.
No Strings
Get yourself on court! A fun, friendly, and relaxed mixed session suitable for beginners and those in the process of learning the game. You don’t need to have any experience of playing the game, just the enthusiasm to have a go. Come along in some comfortable clothing and non-marking trainers – we even have rackets for you to use if you don’t have your own. Play is with plastic shuttles.
Our Wednesday sessions are in demand and over subscribed, so from September 2025 we’ll be offering additional sessions on Sunday evenings at the Girls’ High School (just around the corner from our usual venue) to enable more people to get on court.

No Strings Development
Get ready to develop! This session is for intermediate players, who have the basic shots down, know the rules of the games, and are starting to think more strategically about placement and movement on court. Designed as a bridge between our No Strings Beginners session and club/league play, we’ll have experienced players and Level One coaches on hand to offer handy tips and advice. Play is with plastic shuttles.

Venue information
Our Wednesday No Strings sessions are delivered at Nottingham High School. There is plenty of parking available in the courtyard, with all access (pedestrians and vehicles) from the gate on Forest Road East. The sports hall entrance is in the far left corner. Toilets, changing rooms, and a water fountain are available.
Our Sunday No Strings sessions take place at Nottingham Girls’ High School in the Bowering Sports Hall, with access from Balmoral Road. There is limited parking in front of the sports hall, but plenty in the Girls’ High School’s visitor carpark off Arboretum Street. Toilets, changing rooms, and a water fountain is available.
No Strings Badminton is a national participation programme offering low-cost, fun ‘pay and play’ sessions, endorsed by Badminton England. We’ll provide you with a friendly and welcoming environment to play badminton, socialise, and keep fit. No Strings is inclusive and open to adult players of any age or ability.
These are not-for-profit sessions run by members of the Arboretum Badminton Club, who volunteer their time and energy to help increase badminton participation in Nottingham and introduce new players to the game.
